Soil pH (acidity) 0-14cm strongly acid. 14-32cm extremely acid. 32-95cm strongly acid. 95-120cm slightly acid.
Salinity Strongly saline.
Soil fertility under natural conditions Low phosphorus (P). Very low nitrogen (N) below 14cm.

Susceptibility to drought Soil moisture deficits are never experienced.
Soil drainage Very poorly drained.
Susceptibility to waterlogging In normal years and due to drainage water table maintained at about 65-70cm. Can experience short duration waterlogging at the surface during flood and spring tide events.
Susceptibility to flooding Artificially drained. Water table still affected by tidal fluctuations. In normal years would suffer 4-5 floods, each lying for 2-3 days sometime in the period November to April.
